The most commonly requested
service upgrade for a single home is from 60 amps to 100 amps. This
typically involves the removal of your old fuse system, fuse boxes and
fuses and the installation of a new 100 or 200 amp circuit breaker
system, complete with easy to use circuit breakers and outdoor meter.
Relocating the existing electric meter outdoors is a
CL&P requirement , and is part of the upgrade. We also upgrade the
grounding system, including the installation of two driven ground rods
and a new grounding system back to the main water meter. All upgrades
require and include a town electrical permit and a wiring notice to
CL&P. A typical service upgrade from 60 to 100 amps takes
about 5 hours with 2 electricians. One working inside and the other
working outside. All work is then inspected by the town electrical
inspector and then with CL&P for final approval.
